Snaking through the desert are the Andes and Domeyko mountain ranges, whose peaks can be admired from the comfort of Tierra Atacama. The Licancabur Volcano stands over the Atacama desert at an imposing 5,919m and can be admired from all areas of the hotel. You’ll also discover the incredible flora and fauna which thrives here.

Environmental Protection and Conservation

Positioned in Atacama Desert, Tierra Atacama is a sustainable eco lodge, known worldwide for its innovative architecture, which blends naturally into the landscape. A beautifully pristine environment, has benefitted from hotel's conservation efforts and focus on minimizing carbon footprint, from the daily operation within the hotel, to excursions across the Atacama Desert. The hotel uses LED lighting and controls its thermal efficiency to reduce the cost of energy. Tierra Atacama one of the first hotels in South America to produce solar-powered electricity, with a hybrid system that meets the hotel´s daily energy demand. Thanks to the solar plant, Tierra Atacama is reducing the carbon footprint by over 240 tons of CO₂ every year. 100 percent of the water at Tierra Atacama is extracted from its own well. The water is then treated by a reverse osmosis plant, enabling Tierra atacama to provide its own water for the hotel. Gray waters are used for irrigation, reviving arable land sorrounding the hotel. This land, abandoned for more than 30 years, has been transformed into gardens brimming with native species over six lush hectares.

Community Empowerment

Tierra Atacama is part of the dual education system at Likan Antai, a technical school where Tierra Hotels has taken on more than 50 young people as apprentices, under the guidance of experts in the field of tourism, electricity and agriculture. School graduates have an opportunity to continue working for the hotel.
