Sustainable Initiatives

Environmental and Social Responsibility

In addition to being a San Francisco Green Certified Business and California Green Lodging Program participant, the St. Regis San Francisco collaborates with the hospitality community to achieve common goals. The hotel partners with Clean the World, a Global Hygiene Revolution to distribute recycled soap and hygiene products to children and families in countries with a high death rate due to acute respiratory infection and diarrheal diseases. St. Regis also collaborates with Recology to recycle and compost throughout the hotel. Recology implements recycling programs to recover recyclables, reduce landfill bound materials, return organic materials to farms as compost, and provide recycled raw materials (such as plastic or aluminum) to manufacturers. The hotel also partners with EcoLab to reduce water intensity by 15%, to reduce carbon intensity by 30%, and to reduce landfill waste by 45% by the end of 2025. The cleaning products used have chemicals made from plant derived natural resources, are biodegradable, have zero volatile organic compounds, and are certified by Green Seal and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Bio Preferred program. St. Regis is working with Food Runners, a volunteer-based grass roots organization that picks up excess perishable and prepared Food and delivers it directly to neighborhood Food programs.
