Sustainable Initiatives

Sustainable Building Design

The Peninsula Group commits to meeting international sustainable building standards within new hotel construction and renovation projects. Both design teams and procurement partners adhere to sustainable criteria when selecting interior furnishing for guest rooms, public areas, restaurants and lounges. The Peninsula Group is constantly seeking the most energy-efficient solutions to operate each hotel more sustainably implementing water-efficient shower heads and rainwater collection systems.

Environmentally Responsible

The Peninsula group is currently on the journey of removing all single-use plastics from hotels. Bathroom amenities contain no harmful chemicals or additives. Along with recyclable aluminium packaging, they are also 99,9% free of single-use petroleum plastics. Additionally, amenities such as shower caps, toothbrushes, and razors - which formerly incorporated petroleum plastics - have been replaced with alternatives made from corn starch, wheat, wood and recycled metals. The hotel works with array of community and environmentally focused organisations to effectively manage waste at each hotel. Current initiatives range from waste recycling and food donation projects to soap and bedsheet upcycling. More than 70% of tea, coffee and chocolate served is responsibly sourced, and the majority of the paper and cleaning products are sustainable.

The Peninsula Academy

Since Peninsula Hotels reinforced stance on community development back in 2013, employees have engaged in community work extensively, totalling upwards of 116,000 cumulative volunteer hours since then. Peninsula hotel group launched Meal-for-Meal programme in all hotels, over 160,000 meals (valuing at upwards of HK$2.9 million) provided to nourish the neediest in the communities where they operate.
The Peninsula Academy programme is enabling the guests to discover chosen city through the eyes of a local. Curated environmental and heritage-themed activities immerse guests in the unique diversity and culture of the cities.
