About The Hotel

Susafa is a 200-year-old farmhouse located in the heart of Sicily. The 17 guestrooms retain their original ceiling beams and antique tiles in an environment of age-softened austerity. Everything reads practical minimalism, from the beds’ clean country luxury to the worn window shutters to the spacious, en-suite bathrooms. Created as a haven in harmony with nature, this family-run estate introduces a new generation of guests to centuries-old rural life.

Il Granaio restaurant and Susafa’s wine bar occupy the former granary and winery. The vegetable garden and fruit orchard supply the hotel's restaurant, which only uses seasonal ingredients.

The estate organises weekly cooking lessons teaching an array or regional dishes from recipes handed down the generations. Seasonal activities include cherry picking in June, and helping with the wheat and tomato harvests in July and September.

Sustainable Initiatives

Environmental Responsibility

Susafa uses certified organic, natural cultivation methods over an area of more than 40 hectares. In 2005, Susafa reforested 50 hectares of the woodland. Throughout the operation, Susafa ensures optimal energy efficiencies, by implementing use of solar, photo-voltaic panels and electric vehicle charging points. The hotel has eliminated all plastic water bottles in the hotel and replaced with glass bottles that are filled with water from an in-house water bottling plant. The hotel produces its own organic vegetables in its own garden and uses chemical-free fertilizers for growing delicious, organic vegetables. Thanks to their vegetable patch the hotel naturally offers a more plant-based dish options and has increased vegetarian and vegan selections to offer a more sustainable cuisine. All goods and services are provided by local suppliers, including wine from nearby vineyards Castellucci Miano and Tenuta Tasca D’Almerita, and dairy products from Alia.
