About The Hotel

Storfjord Hotel is a secluded luxury boutique hotel situated in Glomset, on a hillside overlooking the Storfjord and the Sunnmøre Alps. Inside is a calming combination of traditional Norwegian features and über-modern design, with a soothing palette, snug corners, and carefully selected art and antiques.

Hiking, fishing, sailing, skiing – however you want to see this part of Norway, Storfjord Hotel is a picture-perfect jumping off point. A private boat or helicopter trip to the waterfalls at Geirangerfjord and cloud-capped peaks around Hjorundfjord are musts. Back on dry land, short woodland walking trails weave around Storjord, or enjoy the more advanced hiking in the Sunmøre Alps.

Sustainable Initiatives

Environmental Responsibility

Storfjord’s sustainable efforts range from making their own honey from on-site beehives to help the local bee population served alongside local cheeses and used in soups and sauces, to supplying guests with HydroFlasks on their fjord adventures. The hotel also owns land in the Ørnakken Nature Reserve, dedicated to the preservation of bird wildlife. Storfjord helps protect the remote farms along the fjords from Ålesund to Geiranger, preserving the old buildings and keeping their history alive. Guests are invited to tour the farms to learn more about this remote way of life, and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings which have carefully been kept true to their Viking heritage. Storfjord also arranges visits to an authentic fjord farm Gurines, who supply the hotel with homemade pastries and entertain guests with Norse storytelling.

Community Empowerment

Storfjord has a longstanding relationship with both its own village of Glomset and the close-knit neighbouring communities in the Sunnmøre region, cultivating friendly partnerships with local artisans, skilled guides, and small businesses who offer a variety of activities to guests. These include traditional Norwegian baking classes, ethical wildlife safari, photography experiences, fishing trips with a local captain, and routes with a small bus company ‘Travel with Locals’ which takes guests on a round-trip from Ålesund to Geiranger and back.
