Sustainable Initiatives

Sustainable architecture

With a focus on the land, the wine, and the people, resort's design re-imagined a once neglected 800-year-old estate into a historically significant landscape while improving economic, environmental, and cultural conditions. The researched-based approach to this project included tree preservation, wildlife habitat conservation, restorative native plantings, composting programs, and revegetation. The classical yet effective design also respected early hydrology systems, retained building placements, kept site access routes intact, and provided for the use of original materials for all roads and hardscape areas. The design company EDSA guided the formation of a master plan for the UNESCO World Heritage Site with a holistic design that restored the estate and provided site improvements consistent with its history and regional traditions, significantly contributing to the cultural landscape.
