About The Hotel

Necker Island is Sir Richard Branson’s private island paradise in the British Virgin Islands, a stunning and unspoiled area of the Caribbean. At 74 acres, Necker Island sits in turquoise waters surrounded by coral reefs, fringed with beautiful white sandy beaches and is home to the most spectacular wildlife.

All guest rooms boast incredible panoramic ocean views and tropical outlooks, and while no two rooms are the same, they all offer complete privacy, a spacious terrace and some even have their very own plunge pool.

Wildlife and conservation

With 74 acres of natural beauty, Necker Island is the most biodiverse island in the BVI and is home to over 140 species of animals – 70% of which are facing extinction around the world. Necker Island has become a habitat and natural breeding ground for some of the world’s rarest and most endangered animals; from seven species of Madagascan Lemurs to giant tortoises, rock lizards, flamingos, and many more. Necker's wildlife team is passionate about the animals that call Necker their home and Vaman, the Wildlife Conservation Manager, and his team do an extraordinary job in looking after them.

Community Empowerment

Supported by Virgin Limited Edition and Virgin Unite, Necker works with Unite BVI, a not-for-profit foundation based in the British Virgin Islands focussed on bringing people, ideas and resources together to tackle community and environmental changes to benefit current and future generations. From improving education for local children, controlling the spread of mosquito-borne diseases as part of the BugOut BVI programme and, in partnership with The Branson Centre, supporting budding entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge they need. Necker Island is also a proud member of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows those travelling to the island to make a lasting impact in the local community by saving a little luggage space to bring supplies for schools in the area and medical clinics.

Environmental Responsibility

Necker Island operates a plastic straw free existence at all properties and opts for paper or bamboo straws instead. The introduction of water filter machines and reusable bottles has meant that the use of single use plastic bottles have been reduced by 100% at all properties. Necker Island and Ulusaba also make use of the sunshine with solar panels to generate electricity and hot water. Three wind turbines were installed on Necker Island in June 2019 and together with a solar farm and battery system, they allow the island to be without generators for around 90% of the day and save approximately 2.5 tons of carbon from going into the atmosphere each day. Reducing the amount of waste and recycling as much as possible is a great way to protect our environment. Staff uniforms on Necker Island are made with recycled ocean waste and plastic. Necker Island currently has over 100 hens, which are laying around 300 eggs per week. The chefs on island support the local economy wherever possible, working with local fishermen and farmers to ensure food products are sourced from the local area and neighbouring islands within the Caribbean, reducing food miles along the way.
