Sustainable Initiatives

Environmental Conservation and Social Responsibility

Nayara's mission is to preserve and grow tropical rainforest, providing a safe habitat that can support a healthy sloth population. As they continue reforestation effort, tropical rainforests are welcoming more sloths, monkeys, butterflies and birds. Reforestation is the most important action taken by the hotel - by planting new trees Nayara was able to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the air, benefiting the local climate. Most importantly, as those new trees grow, they help rebuild endangered habitats. Loss of habitats is the leading threat to the survival of animal species. The hotel has an extensive collection of tropical plants including palms, cycads, flowering trees, and vines. The team works with local organizations to manage excess waste as a result of daily operations by recycling and composting. Nayara is working on becoming a single-use plastic free resort and has replaced plastic water bottles with glass reusable bottles. The majority of the team comes from the neighboring town of La Fortuna de San Carlos. Nayara offers free transportation, sustainable tourism education and health services to all its employees. Some of additional local initiatives include free early education for employees’ children, volunteer time, and financial support to Hogarcito de Ninos, a local orphanage.
