About The Hotel

Misool is a private island resort and conservation centre located in remote southern Raja Ampat, Indonesia. An island hidden deep in an archipelago of uninhabited islands, surrounded by the richest reefs in the world, at the very heart of marine biodiversity.

All accommodations have been meticulously designed for comfort, privacy, and sustainability. Rooms are spacious, well-ventilated, and generously distributed around the undulating karst rock formations of this private resort island. Misool represents one of the most pristine reef systems left on earth — one of only a handful of places in the universe where biodiversity is improving rather than declining.

Sustainable Initiatives

Marine conservation

A stay at Misool directly supports numerous conservation initiatives and provides sustainable employment opportunities to local people, entirely decoupled from the extraction of marine resources. Misool Marine Reserve is a 300,000-acre marine conservation area patrolled by the Misool Ranger Patrol. Reef Restoration Project has been launched in 2013 with the goal to rebuild coral flats that had been devastated by dynamite fishing prior to the establishment of the MPA network. The goal of the program is to rebuild reefs, thereby increasing fish life which brings associated benefits to both local communities and visitors. In 2021, Reef Restoration Project restored 1000 m² which equates to 40% of the 3-year goal of 2500 m². The team now manages six new reef sites with more than 12,000 fragments transplanted between 2013 and 2020 and a survival rate of 82.4%. The Misool Manta Project conducts critical research on both Oceanic mantas and Reef mantas.

Community Minded

Misool Community Education is supporting early childhood education in the villages of South Misool. As part of the Misool Marine Reserve lease agreement with the local communities, Misool Foundation has built a kindergarten (called Taman Kanak-kanak Baseftin Al-Ma'arif in Indonesian) in the village of Fafanlap. Fafanlap Kindergarten works with students aged 4-6 years old to provide early years education in preparation for school. In the 2021/2022 school year, 25 students attended the kindergarten.
