About The Hotel

Kruger Shalati offers two types of accommodation: 24 Carriage Suites located on the Train on the Bridge and 7 Bridge House Suites located adjacent to the bridge in a picturesque garden setting with the train’s gentle glow as your backdrop. All rooms provide immersive comfort from the most unique location in the Kruger National Park: the historic bridge, where the very first visitors to the Park had a pioneering stay within the carriages, following a night of feasting, performance and tales from times long-gone. Kruger Shalati offers opulent accommodation with an elevated perspective – a reminder of the 1920’s rail safari, with a contemporary interpretation reflective of the marvel of African design.

Shalati's arrival lounge, reception and dining areas, along with two of the three swimming pools, are found adjacent to the Selati Bridge, overlooking the majestic Sabie River. The river flows all year-round, drawing animals and birds that come to quench their thirst on a daily basis.

Sustainable Initiatives

Sustainable architecture and Environmental Responsibility

The technical and maintenance team behind the build of the new Kruger Shalati Train on the Bridge Hotel were adamant that elements of the build should pay tribute to the history of the Park and the structures that were there before them. This luxury train hotel uses many reclaimed items salvaged from the surrounding area and the demolition of previous structures to use as building materials, features and decor. Recycled carriages were used in the 1950’s and were converted into a luxurious hotel positioned on the disused Selati railway line above the Sabie river. Slabs of railway sleepers have been used to hold lights along pathways and longer sections have been used to create steps. Pieces of rusty metal from the old pump house have also been used as striking decor among the dry grass. Planting indigenous trees is another important aspect of reinvigorating the area. About 100 trees have been planted to create barriers and make shade. Extensive solar panels on site will ensure sustainability for the long-term as well as implementation of the recycling programme for general waste.
