Sustainable Initiatives

Animal rescue

The hotel has joined forces with Wild Entrust Africa to help mitigate the lethal conflict between predators and people in Northern Botswana. With the help of this partnership, six camera traps will assist the project’s ground-breaking scent-mark research, which keeps predators away from livestock and safely inside protected wildlife areas. Hotel's guests can visit the Wild Dog Research camp and listen to a Botswana Predator Conservation Programme researcher talk about their fascinating and invaluable work.

Environmental and Social Responsibility

Belmond makes a positive contribution to the many destinations and is also strongly aware of responsibility towards natural resources and the environment, especially at locations close to World Heritage Sites. All hotels, trains and river cruises run initiatives to support the places and people that surround them. As part of “Think Global, Act Local” approach all Belmond hotels are purchasing as much food as possible from sustainable sources, supporting educational programmes and are following sustainable practices to reduce the impact of hotel operations on the environment esuring energy efficiency. Among many initiatives, the food and beverage operations of the majority of Belmond’s hotels, trains and river cruises are assessed by the UK-based Sustainable Restaurant Association. Belmond is the first global luxury hospitality brand to have undertaken this ongoing third party testing. In 2021 Belmond began certification process with EarthCheck for all properties including restaurants, cruises and trains.
