About The Hotel

Situated in the spectacular Atlas Mountains in Morocco, the award-winning Kasbah Tamadot was bought by Sir Richard Branson during one of his famous ballooning expeditions. Each of the 28 rooms and suites has been individually decorated to reflect the beautiful architecture of the building and features antiques from all over the world.

Kasbah Tamadot was the former home of Luciano Tempo, the renowned antiques dealer and interior designer. Luciano filled Kasbah Tamadot with a huge range of items – tables, sculptors and ornaments collected from India, Indonesia and North Africa. When Sir Richard Branson bought Kasbah Tamadot in 1998, he also inherited Luciano’s 1,000 square metre warehouse, filled to the brim with his treasures. As you wander around you will see pieces of Luciano’s collection that have been used to furnish the Kasbah today.

Sustainable Initiatives

Environmental Protection and Conservation

At Kasbah Tamadot, and at all other Virgin Limited Edition properties, the responsibility to protect the environment has been acknowledged and embraced and their methods for waste disposal, recycling and energy saving and the best in the business. The introduction of water filter machines and reusable bottles has meant that the use of single use plastic bottles have been reduced by 100% at all properties. Kasbah Tamadot has initiated an ongoing rubbish collection project in the village of Asni after the local authorities stopped the service. Now rubbish is collected 3-4 times a week from 9 rubbish collection points built by Kasbah Tamadot with the support of Virgin Unite and the Eve Branson Foundation. At Kasbah Tamadot solar panels have been installed to heat the outdoor swimming pools. This project reduced 40% of its oil consumption over one year and as a result more solar panels have been implemented to pre-heat the domestic water. All resorts have been taking steps to make the properties more energy efficient by reducing our consumption and using renewable energy. This includes using LEDs and energy saving light bulbs, as well as motion detectors or timer devices on lights in communal areas.

Community Minded

The Eve Branson Foundation was founded by Eve, Richard’s mother, who works alongside Virgin Unite in Morocco. The Eve Branson Foundation is a charity dedicated to enhancing living standards in some of the most impoverished rural communities in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. It aims to help local people in the long term by setting up sustainable enterprises which so far have included a carpet workshop and a craft house run and managed by local women. Guests can purchase a selection of handmade items in the Berber Boutique which supports the Foundation.
