KORE - Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge

About The Hotel

The lodge is set in the remote western reaches of the park on a tributary of the Grumeti River. The permanent waters of the Grumeti and seasonal Mbalageti rivers attract an abundance of wildlife. Resident hippo grunt in the tranquil pools in front of the lodge while crocodiles lie, log-like, in the shallows. Meals can be enjoyed on the extensive deck with beautiful river views, while the dining area opens up to a traditional African boma, where dinner is served. This part of the Serengeti is also known for its big lion prides. There are four resident prides in the area, consisting of between 20 and up to 60 lions.

Environmental Protection and Conservation

Using the river’s natural bow shape while paying homage to the circular forms of a traditional Masai Manyatta, the cultural homesteads of the Maasai people, the lodge unfolds to reveal an understated sense of luxury entrenched in sustainability. The redesign of Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge, shaped around the existing footprint of the original lodge structures, presented an ideal opportunity to integrate sustainability in each aspect of the operation . A 130 kWh solar power system, designed in collaboration with camp's renewable-energy partner NSC (New South Energy), enables the lodge to run on 80% renewable energy. Gray waters from the laundry are being reused for cleaning of the safari vehicles. In addition, rainwater tanks, with a 10 000-litre capacity, will support filling of the guest-suite plunge pools and wooden decks cleaning. The Grumeti on-site water bottling plant will not only eliminate 11 385 plastic bottles, but will also save 34 155 litres of water annualy.
