About The Hotel

Built some 800 years ago at the foot of a mountain in the scenic Higashiyama temple district, our 10,000-square-metre, circuit-style ikeniwa, or pond garden, is a haven of quiet dignity – and one of the few remaining gardens created at the end of the Heian Period, the peak of Imperial Japan.

A rich model of modernism resonates throughout the hotel while carefully maintain traditional Japanese conceptions of architectureThe spacious guest rooms and suites are some of the largest and most comfortable around — especially with double-height windows flooding the spaces with natural light.

Sustainable Initiatives

Environmental Responsibility

Recycling is actively practiced throughout the resort, which alongside glass, cans and kitchen, applies to water recycling and organic waste diversion program in place with food waste collection and conversion off-site into biogas for renewable energy production and compost for agriculture. A glass water-bottling system is in place to remove the requirement for disposable plastic water bottles, allowing the resort to refrain from using any plastic bottles or straws. The approach to minimising plastic is also seen through use of refillable ceramic containers for bathroom amenities and eco-friendly garbage bags. Throughout the operation, The Four Seasons Kyoto will ensure optimal energy efficiencies, by implementing energy light bulbs or LED lights, infra-red motion sensors, light sensors and timers. All cleaning products used are Eco-certified. Four Seasons Kyoto support osmall, local sustainability-focused artisans, farms and suppliers at the Brasserie. The kitchen team at the Brasserie applies a root-to-shoot approach to each ingredient where imperfect fruits are transformed into gelée, sauces and reductions, and vegetable, meat and seafood trimmings make flavour-packed stocks.

Community Empowerment

Local artists and artisans featured throughout the Hotel, including works from painters, sculptors and potters that capture the abundant beauty of Kyoto and celebrate its culture and aesthetic. Employees volunteer in the local community, including supporting the annual Terry Fox Run, monthly Nanajo Bridge Cleaning and hosting educational programs for elementary and middle schools.
