Coral Conservation

The Dive Centre holds two hopeful projects to help protect the reefs. Thanks to a coral tree, the growth of 37 fragments of coral has been monitored and showed significant results. Eleven of them have been transplanted to the reef Spa Island. Coral frames can also be found in different areas of the lagoon, some are being monitored to evaluate the bleaching. Others provide a new refuge for the fish. Seagrass is the shelter of thousands of marine animals, providing food and a protected nursery. Even more fascinating, seagrass holds sediment together, preventing coastal erosion and plays a significant role in the fight of climate change. Cheval Blanc Randheli recognises its multiples benefits and a protected area can be found between the Dive Centre and the White Bar. The area grew from a 900 m2 patch to the size of 1,330 m2. This successful project led to the opening of a new snorkelling trail to discover the beautiful marine life. As part of its EarthCheck and wider sustainability strategy, Cheval Blanc has worked with the UN Global Compact, being fully committed to the UN global corporate responsibility initiative and its signatory principles.
