About The Hotel

Discover an urban sanctuary where you least expect it, nestled in one of Xuhui District’s last remaining cluster of shikumen townhouses. With only a few of the original shikumen lanes remaining, Capella Shanghai, an all luxury shikumen villa hotel in Shanghai, is proud to protect and evolve the city’s cultural legacy. The design concept, created by Jaya Design International, embodies the spirit of Jian Ye Li - reflected in the fusion of French and Chinese elements, a nod to its heritage and the golden era during the 1930s.

The heart of resort's urban sanctuary are the one, two and three-bedroom Shikumen Villas, which blend historical Shanghainese courtyard living with Parisian design flair. When staying in Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li, a Shanghai luxury hotel, guests will be looked after by our team of knowledgeable Capella Culturists who are there to provide bespoke experiences tailored to each stay.

Through the use of the finest ingredients and innate gastronomic creativity, three-Michelin star chef Pierre Gagnaire has spent five decades transforming simplicity into a symphony of flavour. We are delighted that his iconic name and reputation anchor the dining experience at Capella Shanghai.

Sustainable Initiatives

Environmental and Social Responsibility

Patina Hotels & Resorts’ interpretation of Perpetuality is rooted in Capella's belief in effecting and empowering lasting change. Capella group protective nature means to preserve Mother Earth every step of the way, from designing the properties in accordance with LEED standards to participating in local projects that enhance the landscape. As water is the source of all life, it is essential that every hotel conserves, purifys and honours its precious presence. Capella hotels have joined Parley for the Oceans’ global clean-up network to end marine plastic pollution and bring disruptive creativity to environmental awareness. Marine life is protected as they gather plastics before it reaches the oceans, rivers and landfills to transform into eco-innovative products.

Community Minded

Capella Hotels and Resorts seeks to illuminate the lives of youth in the local community and beyond. It is their belief that all children deserve proper education to build a sustainable future for themselves and those of generations to come. Under Capella Youth initiatives, they offer guidance and support to help youth harness their full potential – whether it’s through hospitality mentorship for the underprivileged or teaching English to locals in Bali. To amplify their outreach efforts, the group has partnered with SolarBuddy – a non-governmental organisation dedicated to alleviating energy poverty amongst youth through the gift of clean, reliable light. Youth in the community will benefit from a productive study environment after dusk, determining their own future and those of generations to come.
