Sustainable Initiatives

Environmental and Social Responsibility

To date, 36 Anantara properties have been awarded Green Growth 2050 certification, based on a set of Global Sustainable Tourism Council-recognised hotel-industry standards. Awards received by Anantara recognise excellence in multiple areas, including human rights, child protection, employee protection, community development, environmental stewardship, and tourism ethics and sustainability. Hand in hand with guests, Anantara's teams contribute to social and environmental projects in each country where they operate. The resort supports communities through grassroots involvement, as well as matching guest donations to organisations that provide vital services, such as child welfare and wildlife protection. Water consumption is minimized in all areas of hotels through the combined efforts of guests and partners. All resorts reduce, reuse and recycle solid waste, implementing composting programmes, and purchasing products that are durable, repairable and able to be recycled. They work with local communities as part of social involvement programme, offering opportunities for local artisans and performers within the hotels. Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort became one of the first resorts in the UAE to partner with Al-Ain water to launch biodegradable water bottles made from corn. Anantara also promotes local cultural awareness amongst guests and integrates indigenous culture into everyday experiences. Wherever possible the resorts employs and empowers members from local communities, and source environmentally and culturally sustainable products and services.
