Environmental Protection and Conservation

Amilla has successfully achieved Silver EarthCheck Certification. The resort works with all partners to ensure that all items are purchased from responsible suppliers. All meat suppliers maintain a cruelty-free programme, purchased items are made of natural or recyclable materials wherever possible. The resort is working hand-in-hand with Parley for the Oceans on fighting plastic ocean waste. Amilla is partnering with Lemongrass House in bringing a range of natural and completely biodegradable bathroom products and amenities. Resort's coconut processing facility has sustainability at its core. This dedicated facility utilises all the produce from the more than 2,500 coconut trees. At processing facility - The Nut, the hotel produces coconut oil, vinegar, milk, and cream and utilises waste products to make nutritious coco peat for the gardens and for crafting. Amilla's Mystique Garden is in the centre of the island, along with the banana plantation, ‘Sweet Spot’ sweet potato garden, and vegetable garden. The resort also has a large-scale hydroponics garden which aims to meet kitchen’s salad leaf requirements.

Animal conservation

The Maldivian Manta Ray Project (MMRP) is the founding project of the Manta Trust. It consists of a country-wide network of dive instructors, biologists, communities, and tourism operators. We now help the MMRP collect data to contribute to their research around the country's manta population, its movements, and how the environment and tourism / human interactions affect them. Reef Restoration Programme uses a two-step gardening concept focused on planting corals that show resilience to heat, and ensuring healthy genetic diversity.
