Amangalla lies within the ramparts of Sri Lanka’s 17th-century Galle Fort, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Offering views of the Fort and harbour on one side and the hotel’s lush gardens and swimming pool on the other, the historic residence presents lofty-ceilinged suites, elegant fine dining and a tranquil spa complex known as The Baths.

Sustainable Initiatives

Environmental Protection

Along with permaculture cultivation of the certified organic vegetable gardens, Aman is focused on growing of organic produce within the surroundings of the resort as well as tree planting, the protection of mangrove, coral and sea turtles, clean beach initiatives and preservation of open lands. LED lighting has been implemented in all properties together with composting, low flow equipment as use of gray waters. All resorts are commited to eliminating single use plastic from properties and are adhering to refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle waste managemnt initiative.

Local Heritage and Culture

Indigenous traditions, craftsmanship and rehabilitation of lost traditions: all hotels support local artisans through purchasing and encourage guests to do the same. Aman celebrates a local cuisine in at least one restaurant in every property offering cooking classes dedicated to the local cuisine as well as activities for guests in the kitchen gardens and at local farms. At this time 15 properties are on or close to a Unesco protected site and support them actively.

Social Responsibility

All resorts promote gender equality, while respecting local culture, and diversity. Aman enforces a strict policy with their suppliers about child protection and offers a support to programs tackling issues for women, children, against poverty and hunger. All properties support local school programs, orphanages and offer a support for female led businesses to create economic independence. Employment priority is given to local farmers and vendors as a support of local agriculture in culinary art, purchase of local products; fair trade, cage-free and free-range products. Aman properties offer healthy, sustainable, organic, seasonal food for guests and staff as well as providing the healthcare of employees and local communities.
