Environmental Protection

A number of our hotels, including Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum, have green roofs or walls that help to reduce the impact of summer heat while improving thermal insulation, thereby improving energy efficiency. These green infrastructures also serve as potential habitat area for urban biodiversity including bees, butterflies, and birds. Mandarin Oriental Bodrum is committed to the preservation of its natural environment, to energy efficiency and to limiting its carbon emissions. The hotel has implemented a sustainable approach to its landscaped design in order to create a habitat that integrates the construction into the existing natural environment. The landscaped area is home to over 100,000 trees and one million plants. Waste water is used to irrigate the forestry area inside the resort as well as the adjacent forest area outside its borders. Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum also pursues a green and organic approach in the kitchen by using local, seasonal, natural and (where possible) organic products. An on-site organic garden provides fresh produce for the kitchen, while a second garden is used for the sourcing of all-natural, hand-ground ingredients for the spa.
