Culture and Conservation

Six Senses Fort Barwara reflects the history and heritage of the Barwara community as it has unfolded over generations. The 700-year-old palace and temples have been responsibly restored using traditional building techniques used in Rajasthan sensitively incorporating efficient design elements such as rainwater collection tanks and solar panels to complement rather than detract from the beautiful and historic architecture. From this significant conservation effort that reinterprets the gracious and regal ambiance of a bygone era and work to protect the wider Barwara community, lake, and landscape, the hotel minimizes negative impacts and maximizes the positive ones.

Community Minded

Not only the resort's building practices make responsible use of the natural land topography but they are also rooted in the local culture. Working closely with architects, artisans and suppliers who live nearby. Supporting the farmers who believe in the same ethical and sustainability standards as the hotel does. Helping local schools with their English-language education courses and lunch programs. Donating medical equipment to the local hospital. Partnering with the Barwara Trustees, to ensure that we collaborate with them on programs that benefit the local villagers. Six Senses provides locals a platform to showcase their handcraft which have been passed on for generations and sell their products. The resort's rewilding project aims to conserve the natural habit by removing invasive species such Prosopis Juliflora and by planting native and endemic trees and plants which are vital for a healthy ecosystem.
